ICE cotton futures closed higher on a technical rebound, supported by crop concerns in India, though gains were capped by falling crude oil prices and slightly higher US cotton acreage.
The December 2026 contract settled at 76.80 cents per pound, while improved US crop ratings and weaker energy prices continued to influence market sentiment.
ICE cotton futures ended higher yesterday on the back of a technical rebound, while crop concerns in India also supported market sentiment. However, gains were capped by falling crude oil prices, which improved the competitiveness of polyester fibre, a man-made alternative to cotton. The slightly higher-than-expected US cotton planted area also remained in focus.
The most active December 2026 contract settled at 76.80 cents per pound, up 0.35 cent. Despite Tuesday's rebound, the contract lost 279 points during June 2026. However, it remained 845 points higher year-to-date compared with its level on December 31, 2025. During the first half of 2026, all ICE cotton contracts posted gains ranging from 539 to 955 points, even though most delivery months ended lower in both May and June.
