China’ s value-added industrial output expanded 5.2% year on year in August, accelerating by 0.7 percentage point from the previous month, official data showed, with industrial robots among the standout products. In the first eight months of 2026, industrial output grew 5.3 percent year on year, data revealed. In the first eight months of 2026, value added of China’s textile industry above designated size increased by 3.1% year on year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) .

Industrial output is used to measure the activity of large enterprises each with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan.

A breakdown of the data showed that the manufacturing sector grew by 5.7% in the first eight months of this year and 6.1% in August alone. High-tech manufacturing output jumped 16.7% year on year in August, while equipment manufacturing rose 12.1% , outpacing overall industrial output growth by 11.5 and 6.9 percentage points, respectively, according to the NBS. By product, in August, the production of 286 out of 626 kinds of products increased year-on-year. Among them, fabric output increased by 5.2% year-on-year in August to 2.6 billion meters and grew by 3.2% year-on-year from January to August to 19.8 billion meters. And the output of chemical fibers declined by 3.2% year-on-year in August to 7 million tons and increased 0.6% year-on-year to 55.90 million tons in the first eight months of 2026.
